I LOVE HAVING AN AUNT WHO GETS PRESS RELEASES :D

new wicked witch poster. file is actually huggggggge. about 1300px high.

cut for my predictions & wishes, spoilery for casting. Also more CAPSLOCKS. )

In other news, my film teacher emailed me and said my WOZ paper was AWESOME! capslock is hers :D (she's very hip. she introduced the class to vimeo not me. but I spend to much time online. we had to present a favorite film found on youtube/vimeo/whatever. I wanted to present 's [personal profile] trelkez's The Adventure, but decided against it, because the vid is password protected, and I thought it would be too complicated. So I showed The Piano Guys' What Makes You Beautiful (5 Piano Guys, 1 piano). Which is a One Direction cover, so some of classmates were like 'GTFO' and some were 'YAYS!!!1!' Teacher got EXCITED about the film work :P ugh, that class rocked. If this were dome 5 years ago, I'd be switching my major to film studies.)

While I'm talking about papers, I've come to the conclusion that I write to much meta online. Because when I was writing my papers this semester, I was totally trying to create text links and strike irrelevant things out, instead of, you know CITING SOURCES.

Can I just let you know how ironic I find the fact that today's Neopets Advent Calendar is Jaws focused? I took my film class final today, which asked all these questions about Jaws and is it high concept or low concept. STOP EATING MY BRAIN MOVIE. i need a jaws icon

And while I'm feeling retro: I'm watching The Princess and the Goblin only because I can't find Fight of Dragons anywhere. I forgot how cool some of these creature designs are. And Prince Froglip? He sometimes voices stoopid bad guys in my head, when I'm reading. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT.

This sequence of the house – with Dorothy inside - being transported in the sky can be interpreted as a woman’s first sexual encounter. The majority of the scene takes place in the bedroom. Dorothy had been out in the storm and got locked out the storm cellar. As she searches for her aunt, the wind picks up. When she reaches the bedroom, the storm blows the window in, knocking her unconscious and onto the bed. This montage is edited with soft focus, tilting camera, and a close up of Dorothy until she wakes up – classical Hollywood romance filming coupled with implied pornography. Then she wakes up and sees some things out the open window, until the storm sudden stops abruptly with a sharp ‘O’ from Dorothy. This is indicative of an orgasm. Directly following this sequence, she suddenly sees the world differently – in color

well, yes. I did just write that. the working title of this paper is 'Ruining My Childhood'

damn you film class :P it's only one minute of sound, but this song is STUCK IN MY HEAD. It may have something to do with the epic bro-ness we've had up to this point. they are strangely adorable here. and then of course, everything sucks from here until "Smile you son of a bitch". (I may have mentioned before, I'm not fond of man-vs-nature stories? yeah, all best parts of this movie are man-vs-man while the crap parts are man-vs-nature. I'm totally content with 3-guys-on-a-boat interactions, anytime)

and have been for while. I'm remembering that I've always though there was something going on between Roy Scheider's and Richard Dreyfuss's characters in Jaws. we'll blame it on the actors...

ps. they are currently drunk, on a boat. Shaw's character hasn't really joined them yet, and OMG they are cracking me up.

So no screening this week in film class. Storm Sandy is messing everything up! There wasn't one last week either *cray*cray* (also, if any storm is going to bork things up, OF COURSE it would be called Sandy. That's the name of one of Mom's oldest friends, one of Step-Dad's sisters and the dog. the dog came with that name, cause geezee, we know enough of them). I need to watch Breathless which from the clips looks... intense. and interesting. we will see!

while talking about the film class: vidding for a movie that is older than 50 and trying to do internal motion? KINDA STUPID. there isn't much movement, even with a movie to the this grand scale. There is so much talking and the camera is ALWAYS AT THE SAME DISTANCE. back to the fucking board. (it was a great idea too!)

VID REC: [livejournal.com profile] maichan's Never Tear Us Apart (X-Men: First Class, Erik/Charles). which, omg, sooooo late to the party, I know. vid's almost a year old, but HOLY AUNT PETUNTIA, is it good. really, really good. One word: cravats. Two words: Time Travel. I love it so much that I had to bug [livejournal.com profile] maichan to upload it again so I could snag it and youtube could never take away from me :) watch it!

So this week was Citizen Kane. Hence the title (duh). Having been spoiled for the ending (damn you AFI 100... lists!) I wasn't really surprised by anything. What I did take away was an appreciation for shadows and a bigger crush on Orson Wells than I already had (is there a term for 'man-crush' when it's a woman crushing on a man? in a platonic way. I want to be as awesome as he is. with a better personal life of course.)

We watched Vertigo today in film class. I may have trouble sleeping tonight :/ despite the wonderfulness. spoiler! )

anyway. she's always in green, he always has a light (or a church) behind his shoulder.

I actually wrote in my notes, from the second half of the film, 'someone needs to die already!' hahaha.
