Empirical, a 1930s Supernatural TV show

1937: London, England. With the stock market recently crashed, and tensions mounting on the continent, it's all anyone can do to put food on the table. Archie works long hours, does his best to keep costs down and sends everything back to his family to support his younger siblings. When he makes a trip into the bowels of the Bodleian Library, he gets his first encounter with the supernatural - and the mysterious Athena. They rapidly become a brutal team with Athena's hands on knowledge and Archie's skepticism.

Main Cast

Athena

Known only as 'Athena' this young woman comes from an old family of ghost hunters who have set up shop in America. She came to England in late 1936 to advise on a haunting. But it turned out her employers suddenly lost all of their money in a risky investment, stranding her without her fee. She's been working odd jobs out of Otto's bar ever since.

She's fond of her Hudson Motor Car, chocolate, rum, and the cinema. She hates eggplants, greasepaint, and English weather. She's an expert ghost hunter, will do witches for a steep price, and has NOTHING to do with trolls.

Archbold 'Archie' Montgomery

Archie comes from a giant family. His parents own their own store and raised Archie to believe in numbers and the obtainable. He read law at university and has been working as a clerk. He does Otto's books for free pints of bitter. He's kind of a miser.

He likes the cats in the alley behind Otto's bar, train schedules, and darning socks. He dislikes the CoE, stout, and Lola's scenances. He's still sceptical about the supernatural.

Otto Mencken

Otto is the nervous pub owner of the The Dove & Bull in London. He knows EVERYONE and is highly connected to the ghost hunting community in London. He's something like a dispatch for the community. And he never, ever leaves The Dove & Bull (suffering from a case of agoraphobia).

He likes his pub, black licorice, and the telephone. He hates hiring waitstaff, and leaving the pub. He's got an ongoing battle with the local temperance union.

Alexander Stewart

Gigantic, ugly and mean ugly leader of the local temperance union. He has it out for Otto's pub. He can often be found picketing outside the front door of The Dove & Bull (leading most patrons to use the back door). But his motives may be a little less pure than temperance. Otto's network of ghost hunters could be the last line of defense against Alexander's nefarious attempt to take over the Underworld.

He likes painting houses, and beans & toast. He dislikes alcohol, Otto, and spicy food.

Lola von Braun

Archie's landlady. She lives in lower flat while Archie lives above. She's a part-time actress and runs seances out of her parlor. Archie participates when she needs to fill up the table, for a reduced rent. She's nosy and completely oblivious to the supernatural (although her last few predictions have been strangely accurate). She might or might not have formally been a paramour of Alexander Stewart - but nobody is talking.

She hates the cinema and loves the stage. She wears a heavy amount of lilac perfume.

Other Details

A 1936 Hudson. RED. Athena is the only one who can drive the monstrosity. Archie is horrible driver. And the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

First of all HELLO STRANGER. :D It's good to see you.

Second, I love when you do these. I end up demanding fic or film or some extended media because your ideas are so good. This one is no exception. The little details kill me. Why aren't you writing/making thisss? Who do I have to kill bribe to get MOAR?

Third, I kind of like that I don't get any more than these little nibbles you set out. Because it makes my brain fly all over the place, like a big, fat butterfly with nowhere to land. Maybe I just like to be teased. :D
