Dear Festivider!
Hi! I love you already :) You're fabulous for even considering making a vid during the holidays. And one for me? WOW. But you don't need me to toot your horn, you know you're awesome! So on to wishes/likes/dislikes. Hope I don't make you run screaming ;)
Music
I listen to everything. seriously! I'm not the biggest fan of modern country, but if you think it works, go for it! (I do like older country, ie. John Cash, Patsy Cline, etc. And Bands With TwangsTM like CCR, Little Feat, etc). Current favs are The Dead Weather, Melissa Ethridge, and Mumford & Sons.
plot kinks
AUs, time travel and non-typical gender roles FTW! Do what you will with that. But especially those gender roles. Team bonding. platonic life pairings.
The City of Lost Children[SAFETY]
Look, I don't think I have the words to do this movie justice. I love Jean-Pierre Jeunet's style and I love Ron Perlman. And this movie has style. The colors and the costumes and the world. I love the little found family of One, Miette and Denree. The clones are hilarious - especially that dream they tell Krank. The camera work is superior. Everything about this hits me in feels. Mostly warm in tingly. But when One is brainwashed, that's TERRIFYING.
Alien series
The most badass lady that ever existed! Or, ladies I should say. Ripley, The Queen, Newt, Call. But Ripley and the Queen especially. And I do like all four movies. Alien3 makes better sense in director's cut, Resurrection has Ron Perlman. But Alien defined the genre and Aliens has the best Marines. Ever.
Ghostbusters 1 & 2
Wacky science, dudes being dudes and ghosts! Plus Ecto-1! There's something about the world building they did in this series that just gets to me. And the one liners.
James Bond films (various)
(copied from an earlier reaction post to first look at Skyfall) OH BOY SKYFALL. THAT IS EXCITING. Really, really exciting. I loved this new trailer. I had all these FEELS while watching. Loved the idea of Bond - a traditional spy character - adapted for the information age. I mean he's always been about information and secrets, but now that info is transmitted by the Internet. It makes you wonder how this movie is going to approach the danger and explosions - since historically, Bond films have used the danger to stop Bond from getting away with film/microchips/photos/people with the facts in their brains. So why is stuff exploding this time? Well except for that one that seems to blow up MI-6. That one seems to be an act of terror directed specifically at M. And speaking of M, this almost-too-close relationship that M and Bond have since Daniel Craig won the role FASCINATES me. It really plays into that whole idea of factions and loyalty in intelligence communities (see Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy. Which is boring. But illustrates my point). Now see, I have this head canon that 'James Bond' itself is a codename. It's been assigned to various men over the last few decades, at M's discretion. Which explains why when Dench!M came onto the scene, Brosonan!Bond was all annoyed. He came up through the ranks under a different M. So Craig!Bond is her Bond, so of course they get all awkwardly close. HENCE THE MOTHER JOKES IN THE TRAILER. UGH. CAN'T WAIT.
sooo yeah. Maybe to Fake It by Seether?
The Magnificent Seven Series
Errr, NO, not series! Just the first one! The other three are awful rehashes of the first. Different actors, different directors, different! Only thing the same is the studio.
Anyway. Enough feels. Look, this is like my favorite western. So many westerns are one lone gunman against The Man. In this case, it's a GROUP. TEAM-NESS. And they all have a role and they're all awesome and Vin tells the best stories and Chris is awesome in black. and so is Benardo O'Riley.
Remember "We deal in lead friend"
Mighty Ducks series (live action)
I'm going to blame this series for the fact that if I'm watching sports on TV, it's going to be hockey. I don't get football. Soccer and baseball are more interesting live. But hockey I can follow and LIKE to follow on screen.
It's underdogs and coming-of-age and jerk adults. There's team building and Charlie is always, always a boob. The Bash Brothers are the bestest.
Newsies (1992)[SAFETY]
I'm feeling nostalgic. The musical is on Broadway which is awesome. But nothing compares to the movie. Because I've seen it like 50 million times and can dance and sing and quote and I no longer watch for the plot but for the background antics (have you seen Oscar making fun of Blink during the '10 cents a hundred!' rant). Hey, its 20-odd good looking guys singing and dancing. My inner 13-year old is shallow.
Quantum Leap
my KINGS of platonic life partners. plus the show is all about time travel. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE? Sam is such a boy scout and Al is a cad, but they obviously love and care for each other. Scott Bakula's range is mind-blowing and there is something I just want to squish into a hug about Dean Stockwell (too many viewings of Thin Man and Anchors Aweigh?). Costumes! Are varied and spot on. Al's handlink antics. And hand waving. mmmmmm. I may have a hand kink (looks at rodney mckay).
I hope my babbling helps you. I can always expand on something if you'd like me too. And thanks once again!
