"i died and turned into a roman. it's very distracting"
Okay, now I've had a chance to digest Saturday's episode a little bit and can be coherent. Ssriously, [livejournal.com profile] fadeintodawn and I keep going 'Pooooonds!' at each other. It's been emotional. So I want to talk about how perfectly PERFECT 'Angels Take Manhattan' handled the fairwell.

Here be spoilers!

So Amy, Rory, and River. They're a family. Biologically I mean. Amy and Rory are the parents of River, even though River appears older. Oh and River is married to Amy's best friend. Yeaah. That's not confusing at all. :P

So the first member of the Pond family we meet is River. Although we didn't know at the time that she was a Pond. Instead we just knew that she was from the future. (And frankly, a lot of fans didn't like her at that point. I'm blaming Ten's reaction.) And that she knows A LOT about the Doctor. She dies
at the end of that two-parter. Which takes place in a library. Books! and River constantly says 'Spoilers!' as a warning to not talk about the future.

SO. what does that have to do with anything. 'Spoilers!' is kinda River's catch phrase. She says it a lot. In almost every episode she's in. And then we get this last episode and it's all ABOUT BOOKS and READING THE FUTURE and SPOILERS!

Spoilers! are bad for you're health apparently. Like you are stuck doing what ever it is that you've read.

And hey, Grand Moff, don't think I missed the fact that the season 5 finale, with the Romans, was all in Amy's head. That she got from a book.

Which brings me to my point about the last two and a half seasons being all about Amy's choice (wouldn't that make a great episode title. oh waaait.) It's what Amy chooses and who Amy chooses. And she'll choose Rory at the end of her arc. Last season? The season before? I don't know that she would have made the choice that she did - either of them. The 'join Rory in jumping off a building' or the 'join Rory in the past'. (personally I think she wouldn't have jumped but would have joined). Just shows how much she's grown-up. Which I think is the point.

And did you she Amy's good-bye to River? "Now be a good girl." And River addressing her parents as parents in this episode. SO MUCH LOVE. ♥♥♥

So while watching this episode I caught three Ghostbusters references.

o1. "If there's a steady paycheck, I'll believe anything you say" quote is what Winston says during his interview for the GB position. While it wasn't actually said in The Angels Take Manhattan it was certainly paraphrased when the private eye took the money to investigate moving statutes.

o2. Staircase of Doom not a technical term, but that's what I'll call it. In Ghostbusters, near the end, the GBs have to climb the stairs to get to the top of the apartment building. There's a sight gag where the boys are exhausted and there's a shot of the stairs from a worms eye view. There's like the exact same shot when the private eye enters the apartment building with the evil landlords!

o3. Lady Liberty she walks through the streets of Manhattan!!! Happens in Ghostbusters 2. An in The Angels Take Manhattan

o4. Got anymore let me know!
